July 4th - That’s a surprise!
We haven’t come across many people who were expecting an election in early July, have you ?
Even the Conservative Party in the Wells and Mendip Hills Constituency seem to have been caught ‘on the hop’ without an advertised candidate … as yet.
The full list of candidates so far can be found here.
Understandably many folks are already tired with the whole notion of an election even before it’s begun. But let’s not forget that the General Election is one of the few opportunities we have to express a point of view in the hope that, if enough of us express similar points of view, we might just make those who want to be elected take notice !
If you are a member of any campaigning organisation then of course you can expect those organisations to give you some good information about party policies as well as suggestions about questions you might ask those candidates seeking your vote. That is particularly the case when it comes to the Environment.
There’s information from plenty of reputable organisations such as
with plenty more to come.
There’s also Vote Climate who will help you to maximise your vote to save the planet. Sign up (click here) and they’ll tell you which party to vote for to have the strongest influence on the climate policies of the next government.
Please don’t feel overwhelmed by all this.
Please do make sure the candidates in your area know that you want them to address the challenge of the Climate Emergency as well as The Great British Biodiversity Loss.
Feel free to ask them what they intend to do in response to the challenges set out in the very many IPCC reports. You can always recommend they check in here.
And when you do … if/when you get a response … do let Sustainable Wells know what they said and we’ll share the news. It’s way over time for us to have a Government that intends to address the Climate Challenge to the very best of their ability … anything else is bonkers !
