WEN Eco Week +

A dedicated initiative spanning 10 days, aimed at elevating awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and celebrating community efforts towards environmental preservation

What’s it all about?

We've all noticed the changing weather patterns, the increase in local flooding of roads and fields, and the decline in biodiversity.
These issues aren't just distant headlines; they're happening right here in and around Wells, and it's up to us to take action. Whether you're feeling confused, a bit fearful, extremely knowledgeable, or simply unsure of what to do next, this event is for you.

Our ten-day celebration is all about bringing our community together to share knowledge, get questions answered, and, most importantly, have fun!
Here's a taste of what you can look forward to:

  • Securing our food future: Engage with local farmers and food producers about the challenges and their innovative solutions.

  • Flood resilience workshop: meet Flood Mary who has extensive experience of working with people living in flood risk areas.

  • The importance of Bees: Be inspired by Brigit Strawbridge, respected writer/author/speaker on bees and bumblebees.

  • Tech for Change: Discover how technology is helping us monitor environmental changes and drive sustainable solutions.

  • Build a bug hotel: Create a cosy home for our insect friends and learn why they’re essential for a healthy eco system.

  • Tech Amnesty: Donate your unwanted technology such as mobile phones and laptops, to a mobile tech amnesty point

  • Guided Foraging and Nature Walks: Embark on expert-guided foraging expeditions and tranquil nature walks, rekindling your connection with the natural world and gaining firsthand appreciation for biodiversity in our local environment.

  • Workshops and Demonstrations: Engage in hands-on sessions covering diverse topics including training on the essential wildlife iNaturalist app, eco homes and handy bicycle maintenance skills.

Come along, get inspired, and see how together, we can make a difference.

Mark your diary, join the events that interest you, and let's build a sustainable future for Wells, for our children, and for generations to come.
