Plotgate Community Farm

As many of you will be aware this Saturday 22nd April is Earth Day and what better way to celebrate than to shine a spotlight on a local business, Plotgate Land Trust which is doing its utmost to clean up pollution and enrich the ecology whilst producing abundant food.

When you watch this film you get a clear understanding of the values and aims which drive their way of working.

What are the benefits of working the way they do? Here are just a few:

  • increased biodiversity,

  • improved habitats, leading to greater numbers of invertebrates, birds and mammals,

  • a reduction of pollution in our watercourses,

  • a reduction in the use of chemicals and fossil fuels,

  • increased local food production, improving food resilience

  • new learning opportunities for young entrants to be engaged in regenerative agriculture

  • new opportunities for rural livelihoods

Want to get involved?

Well, there are many ways in which you can get involved in this community farm - here are just four:

Buy a Box

Order a box of tasty, seasonal, locally grown organic vegetables. You can sign up for a small or regular box, weekly or fortnightly and if you’re not sure which is the best option for you why not try a two box trial?

You’ll find more details when you click the button below:

Volunteer Your Time

Plotgate currently have around 15 regular volunteers who help out on the farm.
As a “thank you”, they are offered some veg to take home.
This works well for people wanting a regular commitment – on a weekly or fortnightly basis. We like folk to do a full morning or afternoon’s work so that you can get stuck into the tasks.

If you’d like to sign up to spending time in good company in an inspiring environment just get in touch at info@plotgatecommunityfarm.org

There are also opportunities for Trainee Grower placements with start dates between 1st April and 1st September.

Make an Investment

Having raised  over £128,000 from members’ investments  Plotgate has recently been able to purchase land adjacent to the Farm.
They now have have the opportunity to buy two further fields and for this need to raise an additional £60,000.  They hope to reach this figure not necessarily through one big investment but by lots of smaller ones !  Click below to download and read the attached document and consider whether this is for you ...  Sixty people investing £1000 or one hundred and twenty people investing £500 gets us there !

(please do take a look at the info - there’s so many reasons for our enthusiasm for this community farm - many more than we can list in one small blog/email!)

Come for a Visit

On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May Plotgate will be hosting a Skill Share weekend of land-based and creative workshops, tours, activities and more. With food from the farm and camping. If you’re interested in coming along send an email to info@plotgatecommunityfarm.org and more details of the event will be sent out to you closer to the time.

Let’s support this local farm!
